Vail Valley Young Life October 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.”  Isaiah 57:14

In a day of so many distractions, so many forms of media vying for our attention, schedules so full we grow exhausted just looking at the calendar, it is no wonder that we are facing  challenges with commitment, depth, and a sense of purpose.  Are we aware enough, still enough to see our Savior?  To hear Him?  In the day of Isaiah, roads were prepared, obstacles removed for their visiting king.  Scripture reminds us that we are the travelers; obstacles exist coming into His presence.  Will we prepare our hearts, recognizing the hunger to be close to Him?  Will we live lives that point others to the King?

Praise:

*For enthusiasm around the valley as another school year of Club, relationships, and YoungLife events get underway.

*For fruit in relationship building; for lives that have already been changed by the Creator of the Universe!

*For multiple, strong Campaigners groups meeting weekly!

Prayers:

*For our leaders:  focus, energy, that their “yesses” be “yes,” that their commitment would stand firm, that their hearts would be encouraged as they invest in the lives of kids and walk in step with their Savior.

*For good Club energy; that it would be a place where kids want to bring their friends.

*For a consistent location for down-valley Club.

*For the statewide Latino initiative common to Young Life; prayers for Vail Valley Young Life hosting Feb 20th, 21st meeting around this initiative; for a sense of the real needs we are facing in this arena.

*For Polar Bear Weekend at Frontier Ranch:  Nov 2nd-4th for high school, Nov 16th-18th Wyldlife…securing enough leaders, safety, hilarious fun, and changed lives.

Thanksgiving:

Lord, you are so faithful in continuing to woo us, in drawing us to your side.  We pray that we would slow down.  That we would listen.  That we would watch for You.  May we recognize ANY obstacle that comes between us and the strength, peace, and joy that come from walking in step with the Savior of the Universe!  Amen

Vail Valley Young Life September 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “So get rid of all that is wrong in your life, both inside and outside, and humbly be glad for the wonderful message we have received, for it is able to save our souls as it takes hold of our hearts.”  James 1:21 LB

As we read the from the Living Bible this morning, we are reminded of the promise available to us in the message we have received.  Life everlasting.  Gratitude for the Gift.  A changed life as it “takes hold of our hearts.”  Don’t we all want to be living a life like that?  James reminds us that we can…and, we will, as we yield our lives to the Creator of the Universe.  Heading into the new school year always brings a sense of anticipation.  Perhaps it’s all the new activities, maybe the hint of a new season, always a sense of expectation.  And, so, as Young Life here in the Vail Valley embarks on a new year we look forward to Christ “taking hold of our hearts” and living a life that will draw more and more kids to His side….

Praise:

*For our amazing YL/Wyldlife leaders…all 25 of them!

*For a growing Action Team.

*For school athletic practice schedules being adjusted to accommodate Club attendance!

*For all the NEW possibilities that a change of season brings.

Prayer:

*For YL All Area Kickoff this Saturday, 9/22, 8pm at Moe’s.

*For YL Club beginning Monday, Sept 24th (Upvalley) and Wednesday, Sept 26th (Downvalley).  For kids to come.  For hearts to be open.  For relationships that would blossom.  For lives to be changed.

*For the Latino initiative in the valley; growing a team of leaders and drawing kids to the love of Christ.

*For continued deepening of relationships between leaders and students.

*For securing a regular meeting place for Downvalley Club.

*For growth in Campaigners, both in Sunday night Downvalley gathering and in new small groups which have formed.

*For drawing, in particular, more Freshman and Sophomores to Downvalley Club!

*For fresh, new leadership and energy at Wyldlife as Scott Leonard leads the charge!

Thanksgiving:

The promise that comes at a new season, a new start is exhilarating!  Lord, we praise You for all You have done and for your faithfulness in our journey.  Thank you for hearing our prayers, for knowing each and every kid that will listen to your call in the coming months, for each leader that will depend on your guidance, love, and encouragement as they allow Your Truth to “grab hold of their hearts.”  What an exciting time to be part of something bigger in this Valley.  Thank you for all your faithful servants that have committed to lift these praises and prayers to You.  AMEN.

Vail Valley Young Life August 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of His craftsmanship.”  Psalm 19:1

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.  I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the Universe displayed…Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee.  How great Thou art, how great Thou Art!

We certainly serve a great and mighty God.  It only takes a walk out our front doors here in the mountains that surround us in the Vail Valley to be convinced of that truth!  We would be fools not to notice…yet, we are aware that His power is displayed in so many ways…in so many places…in so many people.  May we see Your face today, Jesus!

Praise:

* For the wonderful success of our Young Life Auction, “Light Up the Night,” held on August 12th in beautiful Beaver Creek Village. What a gift to have Brandon Heath and Matt Wertz join in the celebration.  It was an amazing night in every way!

* For the folks who now know about Young Life and its outreach in the Vail Valley-and worldwide-as a result of the Auction and the preparation involved!

* For those who gave generously to the ministry of Young Life through this event!

* and, for the amazing, new, energetic leaders who have joined the Young Life team this season!

Prayer:

* For a strong kick-off to Club (UpValley and DownValley) and Campaigners this Fall; that relationships would be forged with each other and with the Creator of the Universe because of the ministry of Young Life.

* For those who would sense a “call” to the Action Team…and answer bodly!  That there would be an enthusiasm and commitment to what God is already doing in this valley through Young Life, and an undeniable draw to join the team!

* For energy, vision, protection, and a sense of adventure in all God has in store for each one of us on our journey with Him this season.

Thanksgiving:

May we see and hear you today, Lord Jesus.  May we see your handiwork.  May we hear your voice.  May we recognize you in the places, in the  events, in the people you place in front of us.  May our hearts be moved…may we respond boldly to Your Voice!  Amen!

Vail Valley Young Life July 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture: “His compassion never ends.  Great is His faithfulness, His lovingkingness begins afresh each day.  My soul claims the Lord as my inheritance, therefore I will hope in Him.”  Lamentations 3:22-24

What more can be said?  Let that truth, that promise, sink deep into your bones today!

*For the vision, leadership, and presence of Area Director, Ben, and his dear family.  They are nearing the the one year anniversary of their arrival in the Vail Valley.  Praying for many more!

Prayer:

*Campaigners:  That long-lasting relationships would form; that our friends would continue growing in their walk with Jesus.

*New Leaders:  That additional individuals would be drawn to walk alongside and love on our high school students.  That, Lord, you already know, in your great compassion, what we already need and who those individuals are!

*Auction:  That 300+ guests would attend “Light Up the Night” on August 12th, as we gather in Beaver Creek Village with musician Brandon Heath (LightUpTheNight.net).  We pray, also, that we can raise 400K for Vail Valley Young Life. Vail Valley Young Life June 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.  Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever.”  Isaiah 26:3,4a NKJV

Peace.  I have been thinking about peace lots these days.  Is it because the hope of lazy summer days are around the corner?  Is it because the clammer of sounds and pressing demands have me longing for a slower pace?  Or, amidst financial demands, overflowing schedules and medical concerns does my soul long for a deeper, more secure sense of peace?

Summer is here.

Life is happening.

And, PEACE is available!

Praise:

*Campers are signed up and saving their money for the week of their lives, July 7-15th, at Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ.

*The dates, details and donations for the Young Life Auction, August 12th, are falling in to place.  What an exciting night it will be!

*Young Life Leaders celebrated a year of commitment, relationships, hard work, enthusiasm and trusting in a loving, powerful God at 4 Eagle Ranch late May.  What a beautiful night it was of tasty BBQ and thanksgiving!

*The summer has begun!  A time of adventure, evaluation, restoration, and long, warm days are here!

Prayer:

*Continued prayers for the hearts of the leaders and kids who will be traveling to Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ the week of July 7th-15th.  Prayers for a fresh encounter with the Living God in the lives of each of those attending.  Prayers for PEACE in the tumultuous lives of any number of teens who will be seeking that very thing!

*For a time to be still.  A slower pace.  Opportunity to marvel at the creation that surrounds us.  Schedules that allow time with special friends.  Creativity in trying something new.  Safety in adventure.  That this summer would provide peace where we need it most.

*For traveling mercies to and from camp, family vacations, spontaneous adventures.

*For sponsorship to be secured, generous donations continue to be received, for details to fall into place, for enthusiasm to build, for hearts to be affected as we host the Young Life August 12th Auction…a night under the stars with Brandon Heath in Beaver Creek Village.  For information or donations please contact Ben Dodds at bendodds@me.com.

Thanksgiving:

Lord, we praise you for Your PEACE, a PEACE that passes all understanding.  May we each experience peace in a powerful way as we slow the pace, enjoy the gifts of summer, and come to You for refreshment. Thank you for your faithfulness to each one of us and particularly the abundant blessings poured out on Vail Valley Young Life.  We are excited about the days ahead.  It is, after all, summertime!  Amen.

Vail Valley Young Life May 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “Fear not, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, I am your God.  i will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 LT

Do we become easily discouraged in obstacles?  Are we frustrated with circumstances, and even people, around us?  Are there places in our lives where we are impatiently waiting for victory, success, answers?  We have nothing to fear!  Our Lord is with us every step of the way.  So, as we head into the Summer months, let us live boldly, proclaiming His truth, claiming His promises, living as His chosen ones!

Praise:

*For 55 filled spots at Lost Canyon Camp in Williams, AZ this July.

*For a strong, energetic finish to Spring Club in the valley.

*For continued health and growth in our leaders (and their families!)

*For excitement and connections as we plan for Vail Valley Young Life Auction in August.

Prayer:

*Prayers for all 55 committed campers to “show up,” without obstacle or excuse, when the buses are being loaded for camp.

*Prayers for our camp leaders:  both availability AND willingness to dive into the responsibilities and relationships of that week.

*Prayers for clear direction in Wyldlife vision casting.  Gratitude for a strong leadership team!

*Prayers that camp fundraiser Bike-a-thon will be safe, fun, meaningful and successful as kids raise funds for each mile they ride from the top of Vail Pass, 50 miles down-valley to Eagle!  If you would like to be part of the action and support our enthusiastic riders, please contact Ben Dodds at bendodds@me.com.  Thank you!

*Prayers continued for logistical progress on our summertime Auction.  We are excited about an evening under the stars, August 12th, at the Beaver Creek Village Ice Arena with Brandon Heath.  Again, if you are moved to support or contribute in any way, please contact Ben Dodds at bendodds@me.com.  Thank you for your generous spirit!

Thanksgiving:

Dear Lord, we are Your children, Your chosen ones. You have called us “from the ends of the earth” to “serve You alone.”  Whatever roadblocks, discouragement, fears or apprehension keep us from living BOLDLY and COURAGEOUSLY for You, we trust, today, that those would be removed!  Thank you, Lord, for your life-giving promises.  May we continue to see You move in the Vail Valley.  In the life of these kids.  In the hearts of our leaders.  May we stand victorious in You, every step of the way!  Amen.

Vail Valley Young Life April 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “Dear brothers, is your life full of difficulties and temptations?  Then, be happy, for when the way is rough, your patience has a chance to grow…For when your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character, full and complete.”  James 1:2,3,4b LB

Praise God for the chance to grow!  To prove that we believe what we say!  How often are we caught in the midst of a struggle, usher words that we are wrestling with and find that God has used those very truths to strengthen what we believe?  Yes, count it pure joy, James says…not only the trials and temptations, but the opportunity to give a reason for what we hope for and believe in!

Praise:

* For continued strength of both Upvalley and Downvalley Clubs this Spring!

* For a full bus heading to Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ this July.

* For the healthy arrival of baby girl, Macy Elizabeth, born to our key Downvalley leaders.

* For safe arrival and opportunity for TJ Dickerson, regional director and Ben Dodds, area director, in Taiwan.  We await news on all they experienced with our brothers and sisters reaching kids for Christ in Taiwan.

* For safe return, continued health and encouragement of Ben Dodds and TJ Dickerson from Taiwan.  For fruit to be evident following Leadership Development, Fellowship, Discipleship and Training in Taipei, Taichung and Hualien.

* For continued enthusiasm, vision, and real-life encounters leaders are having with the high school and middle school kids of the Eagle Valley.

* For final few spots to be filled on bus for Quaker Ridge Wyldlife camp this summer.

* For successful and visionary planning on upcoming Young Life Auction to be held in Beaver Creek, CO on August 12th.  Stay tuned!

* For each and every one of our faithful prayer partners.  Thank YOU.  A successful ministry is built on the the foundation of prayer!

* For leaders concerned with loved ones facing trials and failing health.

* For celebration of New Life!  As we celebrated Easter this month, may we continue to be reminded of the Hope of the Cross!  May every difficulty and temptation give us one more opportunity to draw close to Jesus and trust Him again!  He is Risen!  He is Risen, indeed!

Thanksgiving:

Dear Lord, how very grateful we are to serve you.  To pray for those who give their lives in service to you.  To remember those on the front of enemy lines, emptying their very lives to see another come to a saving grace in You!  As we experience trials of our own, as we share your truths, as the leaders of Young Life in this valley give all they have to ‘reach another kid for Christ’ we covet your direction and protection.  Thank you that we have Hope in the Cross, even when the way is rough…for it gives our patience a chance to grow and grow…a chance to become ‘strong in character, full and complete.’  Amen.

Vail Valley Young Life March 2012 Prayer Letter

Scripture:  “Be still and know that I am God”  Psalm 46:10a

Powerful words.  Power in the thought.  Our lives are busy.  Perhaps too busy.  “…slow down, taste life, give thanks, and see God!” writes Ann Voskamp in her refreshing book, One Thousand Gifts.  Are we capable?  We must.  It is how we can be present to all that God is doing – where we can see answer to prayer, and recognize blessings abundant.

Slow down.  Create margins.  Be intentional.  There we can praise God for all He is, and all He is doing!

We thank you for your prayers for Vail Valley Young Life.  They are working.  God is on the move.  Just check out our praises:

Praise:

*Praise God for a successful Snowshoe Luncheon hosted at the 8100 Park Hyatt Restaurant in beautiful Beaver Creek Resort.  Praise Him for the gift of a donor coming forward with a $25K match.  Please consider your donation while it can go twice as far!  For more information, or to contribute, please contact Ben Dodds at bendodds@me.com or mail your contribution to VVYL, PO Box 5978, Eagle, CO 81631.  Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!  God is faithful!

*Praise God for great energy at both upvalley and downvalley Club.  Praise Him for the same energy and connections at Campaigners on Sunday nights.

*Praise God for great leaders and new leaders. Praise Him for former leaders still taking on a discipleship role in the lives of “their kids.”

*Praise God for your prayers.  They are working!  God is on the move!

Prayers:

*Prayers for new leaders.  Always.

*Prayers for decisions for discipled basketball players to choose to spend “the best week of their lives” at Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ this summer.  An intentional decision as basketball sports camp is the same week.

*Prayers that our leaders do not become overwhelmed with balancing coaching, family, teaching, leading kids intentionally.  Prayers for the health of all our leaders, but particularly our down valley, super-star couple who are expecting their second child in just weeks!

*Prayers, finally, to fill the remaining 10 spots for Lost Canyon summer camp by March 28th!  Prayers, also, to fill an additional 10-15 spots for Wyldlife camp.  If you know of any interested youth, again, contact Area Director, Ben Dodds, at bendodds@me.com.

Thanksgiving:

Thank you, Lord, that you meet us where we are.  Thank you that you listen to our prayers.  Thank you that you continue to draw us to Yourself.  Lord, help us to slow down, to be STILL, before you…so that we can experience more of your POWER, more of your LOVE, more of the KNOWLEDGE that you are right here!  We wait, quietly, with expectant hearts!  Amen.

Vail Valley Young Life February 2012 Prayer Letter

Good Morning Vail Valley Prayer Partners!  We hope this finds you well… Thank you so much for your continued prayer for The Vail Valley!  Please join us in praying this morning….

Scripture:  “In those days when you pray, I will listen.  You will find me when you seek me, if you look for me in earnest.  Yes, says the Lord, I will be found by you…”  Jeremiah 29:12-14a LB

Isn’t it wonderful to serve a Living God?… One in whom we can put our trust, come to with our burdens and praise for life’s victories.  As we ask those around the globe to join in prayer for Vail Valley Young Life this, indeed, is a reassuring promise.  It is powerful to see how God engages us, equips us and empowers us to continue to reach a hurting world for Christ.  In a recent Young Life publication it was written that Tony Dungy, after decades of NFL and Super Bowl success, offered a word of encouragement:  “I know you are in the messy world of young people, but hang in there with them.  You befriend them, encourage them, pray for them, and point them toward the God who loves them.  My advice to you is to keep putting first things first…”  Prayer is a “first thing.”  We start here, and move forward with expectant hearts.

Prayer:

*Pray for MORE kids from Battle Mountain, Vail Christian, and Vail Mountain School to join us at Young Life Club; that excuses will diminish and interest increase…that their excitement would be contagious!

*Pray that kids will find acceptance and experience pure JOY at YL Club.

*Pray for God’s leading in outreach to the Hispanic community; that Young Life would be able to meet these friends where they live; that leaders in that community would come forward with a heart for reaching kids for Jesus.

*Pray for Vail Valley Young Life Snowshoe and Luncheon:  For preparation, delivery and success of this premiere event to be held Saturday, March 17th, 2012 to benefit VVYL.  Prayers for protection and provision as participants explore on snowshoe the beauty of Beaver Creek, then enjoy food and entertainment at 8100 Restaurant, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.  For more information contact Jen Baker at ylinvail@gmail.com.

*Pray for those kids God wants at Lost Canyon (Williams, AZ) for summer camp.  July 7th-15th grades 9-12.  For more information contact Area Director, Ben Dodds, at bendodds@me.com.  In addition, pray for the selection and preparation of those students being called to serve on Work Crew for summer camp.  This is a new and exciting opportunity for VVYL.

*Pray for Wyldlife in the Vail Valley (Junior High/Middle School aged students).  We pray for leaders, club, camp sign ups, and the students of the valley.

Thank you, Lord, for hearing our prayers.  Thank you for the way you draw us to Yourself.  What a promise.  What a Saviour!

Blessings to you all….

Vail Valley Young Life Prayer Letter- January 2012

Scripture:  “Behold, I make all things new…”  Revelation 21:5

It is a new year, and with it comes hopes, dreams, plans for what we would like to see accomplished or realized.  Perhaps a healthier, slimmer “you”; perhaps a stronger relationship with someone we love; maybe venturing off to new places; or simply sitting still long enough to listen to the God we love.  We are reminded here in the High Country of what new seasons, particularly Winter, can bring.  After several unseasonably dry weeks we are celebrating the advent of measurable snowfall! Around here that adds up to a better economy, more enjoyment outdoors and more up-beat attitudes.  Can’t help noting, as well, how fresh and clean and NEW everything looks under a blanket of snow!  As we ponder all that Our Heavenly Father might have in store for ourselves, our families, our neighborhoods, and our world, we invite you to join us in praying for Vail Valley Young Life…

Prayer:

  • Pray for NEW leaders; for a growing team of enthusiastic leaders and a boldness inviting friends to join the team.
  • Pray for NEW campers; for 24 spots yet to be filled out of 56 for summer camp; Lost Canyon (Williams, AZ) will be our destination July 7th-15th, for 9th-12th graders.  If you know any youth that want to experience “the week of their lives” please contact Ben Dodds at bendodds@me.com.
  • Pray for the NEW semester of Club; that there will be good energy going into the Winter/Spring season, that NEW friends will be invited, that NEW relationships with the Giver of Life will be forged.
  • Pray for NEW opportunities for our Vail Valley Young Life Campers as they consider Work Crew; pray that hearts will be tugged to attend, that opportunity will arise, that God will remove barriers, and that we will see four students be a part of Work Crew this summer.  Pray that we recall the promise of Revelation 21:5 and live each day with expectant hearts.
  • Pray for a NEW level of connecting as our YL leaders share in a retreat day, Saturday, January 21st.

Thanks:

Thank you, Lord, that we can rest in your promises of making ALL things NEW!
